  • Precision Watch Company: Total service from great watchmaker

My Longines Ultra Chron needed a service, a lovely watch that I couldn't open, needing specialist tools. ...so I sent it to Precision Watches in New Lynn. I mentioned it'd be nice to know what the watch movement looked like. They went the extra mile and sent me a photograph of it out of the case as a movement.

Now thats what I call service . Precision Watches have repaired and cleaned many watches for me...all great jobs, and now going that extra mile.. I thoroughly recommend them Cheers George :thumb:

Absolutely, very glad the Ultra Chron is all 'good to go - Precision Watch Co. are definitely regarded very highly (internationally even) & are more than capable of very high end and also very specialized work... these guys will look after your precious vintage Rolex, your Seiko 6105 (they have one of the very very best SEIKO men, an ex SEIKO service Tech, TonyB in-house)... furthermore, one of the guys in there (Mr. Big Boss Man) has probably forgotten more than most other Watchmakers will ever know and he is easily capable and indeed the only guy in New Zealand willing and equipped to do stuff like service or repair your Jaeger-LeCoultre ATMOS, that sort of thing...

Another thing, watchmaking, like PWC is capable off, is a dying art, what with 'throw-away' movements etc like in many watches these days and there's currently not just 1, but 2 Apprentice Watchmakers being trained up by the more experienced guys.

PWC are 'the watchers to the watchmakers'.

This outstanding team of professionals deserves more props, 'Precision Watch Company' in New Lynn, Auckland.

Here we have (see images beneath) a very early Magrette Split Seconds Chronograph, Reference: MARCUS 5421 / Serial 038, AFAIK this is a model Dion did commemorating his brother. Unfortunately, when we obtained the nicely finished manual wind chrono, many years ago, it had an issue (as in, 'it didn't run')... it turned out that the calibre is a bit unusual and that the broken part... the tiny eeny weeny little microscopic pallet staff proved in the end quite impossible to get, anywhere, even after a few years of searching... no one seemed to have the part in their shop, not used, not new, and we couldn't even find a watch on ePrey or anything to buy from which to scavenge the part out of to get the unusual & sort of important Magrette operational.

The only chance, and now with a potential buyer for the rare split second chrono luming, was having it sent to Precision, the watchmakers to the watchmakers, only they attempt the impossible, as per this very difficult investigation into a 'Dual-Complication'.

The MAGRETTE 5421-MARCUS was duly sent to PWC, and while they too cannot get the part either they immediately offered to build a pallet staff, not a problem.. here is the head watchmakers bench where the balance staff is currently being created from scratch... not many are capable, or willing to attempt jobs like this, a few but not many... fwiw the head watchmakers middle name, is in fact 'Impossible' :D

Hopefully, in the next few weeks, we can update this thread with news and a piccy of the watch, ticking again with precision.
