    • MCL straps are now in my hands.... birthday gift from my daughters. This was not a combo I had intended as it's a 19mm strap in a 20mm lug width but it's a great match I reckon!

    • Samurai on rubber today. Going through a phase of putting everything on deployant clasps at the moment, so thought I'd give this a go. Seems to work well.

Works great! No tail by the looks?. Any good finds in the deployants you've bought?

I went with the Breitling style deployant from Panatime for this one, so the tail is on the inside which works well.
Otherwise ive got a nice butterfly style deployant from Strappedfortime.com when I purchased a strap from them.
I'd recommend both in terms of quality. Very safe and secure. Half decent finishing and about $30 USD each.

I tried on a solar Tuna in the weekend and was surprised how small it wore, being well versed in seiko case/lug magic I wasnt expecting that much trickery!

Yup, the End 2 End (L2L) is oft' the most useful indicator of 'o'all size'.

Width can have SFA to do with it in some/many cases.

      • it's just my old BFK returned from MadModWorld all tacticooled out in matt black with a sapphire dome fitted.
i had an old Sinn set in the drawer of forgotten projects and measured from the lug hole to the case edge and cut accordingly. i need a 20mm clasp in black now though (my clasp in in v.good condition if anyone wants to swap.
also need to refit old or find a better insert as its letting the side down a little but all in all happy with the result.
im not sure how long the cerakote will last but it should make for in interesting "patina" as its exposed to life.

        gratuitous fitment shots.

I quite like the stainless clasp, atleast when viewed into it from the backside like in the above shot. Gives it a super tooly vibe that might get lost in black, then again if its stealth you want...

I'm with Sarbie in support of SS clasp. IMO, it noddingly anchors the steel-coloured hands, takes abrasions better than blackened ones, and black clasp, unless you send it off for cerakote, will not completely match the head anyway. Best of all, it's a subtle hint that this is a one-off custom, not factory-stock

I agree with the others... the stainless deployant give the watch a more black look, contrast etc

It's actually quite cool + tuff looking, I like

Not that I know of, Harlan. The Manual-Winding 5717/5719 are very rare, and I’m not using those words loosely like folks use on auction sites. Compared to the later Seiko Automatic Chronographs, the 5719 is on the level of rarity as a 6138-8000 23j, 6138-0020 Tokei Zara, 7016-7000, 7016-8000, 7018-500, and 7018-8000...all of which would draw a blank on those Pogue-obsessed Hodinkee types. In New Zealand, I have only seen one 5717 come up on TradeMe—earlier this year, I think? Personally, I have only handled one belonging to a collector friend, but have yet to own one.

          • Today I was unpleasantly surprised to find that even if I spent 25k at partridge on a GS and 31mm Ladies datejust for my mother that we'd only be given $500 discount.

TKNZ, what happened to the days of getting discounts on even run of the mill high end watches? I was under the impression that only steel sports Rolex were non-discounted and unobtainable.
