              Happy Friday all.

Just received my order from MCL. Custom "Predator" chocolate brown genuine crocodile strap - no stitching or padding - quite a different look.

Well matched combo. These are a nice interpretation of vintage style non-padded straps for sure. Though not padded, they look thicker and goes well with modern watch cases that are larger, IMO.

...good thing TradeMe doesn't ship to where I am

For Black Friday, I'm wearing something I've posted before, though sometime ago...

MIDO "MULTIFORT SuperAutomatic" Powerwind from 1959

This watch was purchased new by my father with his first pay cheque in 1960. For around 20 years, my dad had just this one watch for any and every occasion, including occasions when he shouldn't have really been wearing a watch. So, the piece wasn't a safe queen when it came to me (also, possibly because he didn't own a safe). My dad loaned this watch to me when I was 16 and my digital quartz Pulsar went to watch heaven.

The fascination with mechanical watches has been a thing for me ever since, but this was the first that got me. Inside beats a Mido Cal. 917P, manufactured by A Schild exclusively for Mido. The 917P is the only large-scale produced movement with a free-oscillating hairspring--there is no stud nor stud carrier on its regulator and the tail of the hairspring is held by a roller-like system. The design was to eliminate ischronism error.
On the instruments we entrust to pace our lives, to bear witness to our days, and to be the keepers of the most precious thing we have... time.

Great back story Don. I wonder how many of us have our first mechanical watches. Mine was/is the speedmaster triple date I wear sometimes. Bought that one the year I got married, 2003. Great idea for a thread there maybe

Our washing machine, dish washer, fridge, and my computer are all just about dead. So today I invested in a massive flat screen TV. Got to get your priorities right I suppose.

Haha... Black Friday exists surely for us to sort our priorities ...Befitting racing brown to complement not only the Speedmaster but the nice blue of its markers and hands.
