  • It's tricky isn't it?

I used to be like you and very reluctant to put a watch in harms way. One day at work I had a patient come in as a trauma. Nothing too serious, maybe some rib fractures and when I was doing his secondary survey (top to toe exam after you've looked for the big nasty, life threatening stuff) caught sight of a banged up Submariner on his wrist.

I couldn't suppress the WIS and had to stop for a second to compliment him on his watch. The nurses thought I was mental! This thing had scratches all over the crystal, bezel and bracelet.

He said his sister had bought it for him 25 years ago and he'd worn it everyday. I realised then that while it's ok to want to keep a watch pristine there's also charm in knowing a watch has been with you for most of your life and like you taken some knocks along the way.

    • Ah.....so I got a small scratch on the Bronze.....infuriated me as cannot work out how....on the arm side of case not hand side!!!!
      But it's a watch....and MUST be worn......marks are inevitable.....and expected.
They are not for simply putting in a box and looking at from time to time.
So mark it with pride......and don't forget to wear the rest of them.......

      • I can totally understand the OP. My current job is one that has low risks of getting any of my pieces banged up. Also, I am mostly on long sleeved shirts thus have some extra protection. For garden work or other DIY stuff, I use either of my monsters or my baby tuna. Believe me, they are super tough and can take lots of hardships and knocks. You might also want to consider a Frankenmonster. The bracelet and bezel are made in such a way that they are virtually impervious to scratches, dings, swirls and the like.

        • I've resolved my inner conflict: I'm trying to pick up a secondhand/new watch for
At the moment I've got options on a Citizen or a Casio (which has an added benefit of homage to my childhood watch-wearing past!)

And, I've got to have the Seiko Baby Tuna (SRP639) because it's so pretty!

          Thanks all!

                  • Swapped for another 'homage'. Although this ones doing a fairly bad job of walking the line between homage and replica. LOL
